We install playgrounds and build the spaces around them for schools, councils, childcare centres, parks, developers and playground suppliers across South East Queensland and Northern NSW.
It’s practical work with a visible result. You can arrive at a bare site and leave behind a playground that will be used for years.
We’re looking for reliable people to join our installation crews and help deliver playground equipment, surfacing and associated external works.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your day-to-day work may include:
- Reading plans and installation drawings
- Setting out playground equipment
- Excavating and preparing footing locations
- Assembling playground equipment
- Checking heights, levels and alignment
- Installing footings
- Preparing bases
- Installing rubber soft fall
- Installing synthetic grass
- Concrete works
- Edging
- Garden beds and landscaping
- Fencing and finishing works
- Loading and unloading equipment
- Looking after tools and vehicles
- Keeping the site safe, tidy and organised
Every project is different, so the work varies depending on the site and scope.

You don’t need years of playground installation experience.
What matters most is that you:
- Turn up on time
- Work hard
- Listen and learn
- Take pride in the finished result
- Are comfortable working outdoors
- Can work well as part of a small crew
- Are reasonably fit
- Are practical and confident using tools
- Care about doing the job properly
Previous experience in any of the following would help:
- Landscaping
- Concreting
- Fencing
- Carpentry
- Labouring
- Civil construction
- Synthetic grass
- Excavation
- General construction
What You’ll Need
A current:
- Driver’s licence
- Construction White Card
Useful extras include:
- Excavator experience
- Skid steer experience
- Machinery tickets
- Trailer licence
- Construction tickets
For the right person, ALAS is open to helping you gain additional tickets and experience as you progress.
What We Offer
- Steady year-round work
- Good rates
- A variety of projects
- Hands-on training
- Opportunities to learn playground installation, rubber soft fall, synthetic grass and concreting
- Career progression for people who show initiative
- A practical team environment
Most of ALAS’ leading hands have progressed from working on the tools, and the business has a clear pathway from installer through to experienced installer, leading hand, site supervisor and eventually project manager.
Work You Can Be Proud Of
ALAS’ culture document makes the point well: playground work is different because people actually use what you build, and the expectation is to deliver something you’d be proud to put your name on.
Sound Like You?
If you’re reliable, willing to learn and want to build a career in playground construction, we’d like to hear from you.
